Bridge - USS Repulse

"Captain, if they cannot go to warp we should reach them momentarily. I am preparing a tachyon burst from our main deflector that should cause a lot of static on their tactical sensors." Ja'niri called out.

-Ja'niri

"Locking on target assss we come in range." The lizard called out.

-Lt. Ta'ask

Lt. Highland (Comm Officer): "Unidentified vessel, come to a halt and identify or we will open fire... no response."

Admiral Carter: "I'm reading higher radiation levels and parts of the ship with no power at all."

Ensign Roux: "Vessel has quadrupled its speed. At this rate they'll pass into the neutral zone in 3 minutes, 18 seconds. We will be in weapon range in 3 minutes, 4 seconds."

Commander Sullivan: "They are routing as much power into their engines as possible, ignoring the risk to their crew."

Ensign Roux: "We are in visual range, captain."



At the moment, Dr. Badawai's voice came over the comm.

"Badawai to the bridge. Captain, we have identified who the missing member of the Regula crew is."

"One more go, Ms Highland", Heinz said, "Dr. Badawai, who is the missing member of the crew?"

- CO

"Unidentified vessel. You are in violation of Federation space. Cut your engines or we will fire upon you. This is your final warning."

= "The duty roster of the Regula space station had a Vulcan listed amongst the research assistants," Badawai reported. "All of the casualties we recovered were human. The Vulcans name was Solin." =

Lt. Highland interrupted at this point: "Captain, our hail is being answered. I'm getting visual, shall I put it on the main viewscreen?"

"Yes, please", Heinz replied, "I like to see the face of someone before I kill them; it makes it more personal".

She readied some suitably pithy responses for when this guy/girl/other responded.

Ja'niri quitely began running scans of the Cardassian vessel for Vulcan life signatures. With any luck they could make them drop their shields and beam the captive out. Too simple, yes, but Ja'niri liked to think postiive every now and then.

"I am Captain Korlaangh! I have not violated 'Federation' space, Starfleet, unless you deem the peace treaty invalid! Have you deemed it invalid, Starfleet? I hope so. It would be my pleasure to destroy you! Otherwise, stay out of my way!"




Ja'niri could read lifeforms on board, but it was difficult to scan for any particular type through the vessel's shields. Were they to come down, the scans could be more conclusive.

Klingon! Why would there be a Klingon crew aboard a Cardassian vessel from the 24th century. And more importantly, why was a Klingon crew about to flee into Romulan Space. That wouldn't happen even a hundred years later. Ja'niri's antennae monitored the discussion while she ran a vocal logarithm of the Klingon's voice patterns. Something didn't make sense here.

Heinz sighed. "Well if you're going to be like that", she said, "The Peace Treaty is invalid for you".

She allowed one beat than gave the order.

"Open fire".

"D'kar tel G'denna!" the Klingon roared, and the tranmission was cut off.

Ta'ask responded immediately to the command and let loose a volley of phaser fire into what he best judged were the critical systems sections of the target space craft. His long toothy jaw lifted into a bit of a grin as the lances of energy shot forth into the void of space.

The flicker of shields indicated Ta'ask had scored a hit. The readings from his console told him the enemy had lost 40% of their shields.

The vessel returned fire with a phaser spread and a torpedo volley.

"Engaging evasive maneuver Theta-2!" Ensign Roux shouted. She rapidly tapped the controls and the ship responded smoothly, peeling off sideways and up, then turning and coming back down towards the ships aft area once more. The torpedoes missed completely. The phasers, however, found their marks. The ship rocked as it was hit.

Commander Sullivan reported, "Shields are holding."

"Attack pattern Sierra!" Ensign Roux reported again, coming down across the aft of the vessel, giving Lt. Ta'ask a great shot at its back side.

Heinz watched the battle with interest. Things seemed to be going their way; of course, this could all change; war had a tendency to be like that.

Ta'ask barred his teeth a little as Repulse arched out of the way of the incoming volley. Prey was fighting back. He felt the red rush of adrenaline course through his veins. The hunt had become interesting. The navigator brought the good ship to bare on the enemy's stern. Ta'ask click the switch unleashing another volley of phaser fire followed by two photon torpedoes spiraling down on their target. His claws quickly cued up the order for the gun crews to reload. He would release one more volley of phasers into it targeting the warp coils if time permitted. It was a good hunt and the blood of prey was his for the taking.

The enemy ship also took evasive action, avoiding some of the firepower Repulse was dishing out. But the strange vessel's shields took another hit and flickered once more. Ta'ask's console told him the shields were nearly down - only at 10% of what they were originally. One more hit, and they'd be exposed for some serious damage.

Ensign Roux was grinning from ear to ear. She loved flying, and it showed. "Engaging maneuver Lambda-1!" The Repulse rolled on its longitudinal axis, the view screen spinning as it did, again avoiding most of the return fire from the enemy vessel before coming back to its original position.

Commander Sullivan updated with, "Shields still holding. Nice flying, Ensign."

Admiral Carter reported, "Scanners are picking up two Romulan vessels entering the neutral zone on an intercept course. They are coming fast. ETA 3 minutes."

The Navigator, Ensign Howland, added, "We entered the Romulan Neutral Zone 20 seconds ago."

Lt. Highland immediately followed with, "We are being hailed, Captain."

Ja'niri was monitoring the battle and damage to the Cardassian ship. She was grateful the Federation's weaponry in this time could do damage to the vessel. She kept a tight scan on the ship looking for the vulcan officer from the science team. If the oportunity presented itself she would beam him in from the science station if necessary. Whatever was going on here was not good. She preseumed the Klingon they had seen early was a fake. The vocal scans were nearly to perfect and the dialects were not correct. And now they were being drawn into a border conflict with the Romulans. Perhaps the Cardassian's Klingon ruse would work in their favor. If they reported to the Romulans that they were persuing a renegade Klingon with intent to end the Romulan Federation peace treaty. Galactic politics might be their best recourse.

"OK", Heinz replied, "Put them up, please".

Romulans. Ah joy. She'd have to use all her diplomatic finesse for this.

A male Romulan appeared on screen.



"Federation vessel, you are in violation of the Neutral Zone. You will break off your attack and return to Federation space."

Heinz put on a firm, but friendly tone.

"We are engaged in hot pursuit of a vessel that has attacked a Federation science facility and stolen items of great military significance. We apologise for violating the Neutral Zone, but it is a matter of galactic security that our opponent is disabled or destroyed. We humbly request your assistance".

Or at least your acquiescence.

"I am afraid that isn't possible. We have granted them asylum. They are now under Romulan protection. Any act of violence against them is an act of violence against us. Break off your pursuit or we shall consider this an act of war."


Ensign Roux turned to the Captain, awaiting orders.

The vessel had ceased fire, but still had weapons charged. The Repulse was in prime firing position to drain the vessel's remaining shields. Ta'ask only needed to press a button...

Ta'ask watched the tactical readouts of the battle. Prey was weak. Prey was ready to be pounced on. One more shot and Prey was theirs. The hunt was nearly concluded only to be interrupted by the Romulan. They would take Prey away from them like so many little scavengers. a pointed claw hovered just above the firing buttons. The Captain had not said to cease fire. Ta'ask took orders from the Captain, not the Romulan. If prey fired, Ta'sk would pounce.

Heinz asked one question as she muted the comm for a second, then covered her mouth to throw off a lip-reader.

"Can we take all three vessels?".

- CO

Admiral Carter replied, "The odds would be sorely against us, Captain. The Repulse may be the finest ship in the fleet, and could go toe to toe with any single Romulan ship, but two Romulan warships is stretching it, and with the firepower this other ship has displayed added into the mix, we'd be at a disadvantage."

Heinz now faced a dilemma; the mission or her ship. She could not let the Genesis device fall into the wrong hands.

"Right", she said, "Fire everything we have at the thieves, that is every torpedo, then turn and run".

She hoped that would be the correct decision.
