Mark and Gunther were having a fairly serious chat when Poppy's voice came over, On the console were the ownership papers of the Atlantis and Mark's fresh signature was on them, Gunther had just received a wave from a good friend who needed him to attend a family situation on Ariel , Mother was sick and in the hospital and needed her man to attend to him, a large portion of the estate was coming his way, this included a small space port where the Atlantis could set down for shore leave

" Well Mark she's all yours, Take care of her and the crew, they're all winners "

Marked grasped Gunther's hand in a firm handshake

" Will do sir, in memory of my parents, We'll carry on the mission of helping those on the outer rim "

Then comes Poppy's call

=Any big stong men that want to come help me get out of here would be greatly appriciated. Soon...=

Mark looked at Gunther, then the controls

" Uh sir could you take the bridge while I see what is going on ?"

Gunther smiles at his friend and chief pilot

" I would be honored to pilot her for one last time...Captain "

Mark lets Gunther take the controls

" The Silver star refueling ship should be here soon to pick you up "

" I'll make sure to have them wash the windows and check the oil "

Gunther smiles as Mark leaves the bridge , This was one way of him saying goodbye to his beloved crew and ship. He knew that Mark would let him fly her until he was picked up , The Atlantis was in good hands with a good captain and crew

------------------------------------------------------Time Break ---------------------------------------------------

Bridge - Deck B Poppysm
Poppy stormed up to the door to the bridge. She jammed her delicate finger into the call button. =Co-Pilot requesting permission to enter the bridge.= She announced in a very stern voice. Gorram protocols. She had been building quite the head of steam on her way up. Everything she did the Captain had nitpicked something on her performance. How she came onto the bridge... what she wore... flying out of the shuttle bay.... And now that man had the nerve to let the common crew handle Blue Sun property that he had promised to keep undisturbed. He knew the potential costs, to her, the company and the lives of the crew. She actually pounded her tiny fist against the door impatiently.

Poppy heard the door unlock

" Enter "

When she got to the flight deck she was surprised to find the captain at the controls, next to the door to his quarters were several bags cafefully stacked by Kundan on a cart

Gunther turns to Poppy

" Please take the co pilots couch, we will be docking with a mid air refueler shortly and I need your assistance "

In the distance was a Silver Star refueler, it was the same size as the Atlantis , her fuel boom was extended, this would be a challenge even for two flight crew

Poppy open the door with a scowl. She set her eyes on the Captain with the intent to give the man what for. She did notice the bags. She also noticed the refueling vessel approaching out the main viewport. That distracted her, and she automatically followed the instructions given to her. She sat down in the co-pilot's couch. She quickly secured the courier tube in a pouch on the side of the chair. "You and I need to talk when we finish this." she said sternly to the Captain. Her attention went back to the approaching tanker.

"Have they signaled for coupling yet?" she inquired as she tucked the com unit behind her ear. The chatter tolder what she needed to know. Her fingers danced nimbly across the control board bringing up the systems screens. The voice ont he com sqwabbled instructions.

=Copy that Sil-Star-Fueler, Atlantis is set to recieve synchronozation pulse.= She stated into the com. Her fingers dashed to panel to recieve the instructions from the tanker. Data began to flow across the screen.

=Sych pulse recieved. Begining roll to 00-Niner.= She stated into the comm. =Opening recepticle for boom coupling.=

She watch the Captain as he responded to the instructions to snchoronize their trajectory with that of the tanker. It was difficult for her not to take the yoke and fly it herself. She was just hte co-pilot and he was the master of this vessel, even if she did think she could fly it better. "Sir, you are on the edge of the envelope, adjust .003 by 1.42." She was still annoyed at him and didn't mind being a little intrusive.

But it appeared that the plans would soon change, as Ryan's voice sounded over the comm system with a rather urgent message:

= "Captain, this is Ryan. We have a problem. There's a leak in one of the gaskets of the fuel pump. Hydrogen gas has been building up in the shuttle bay, but I can't close it off, since the hatch to the cargo bay has been damaged. Give me a minute to think of something to close it off. But right now I need you to take the pressure of the hydrogen tanks, sir: I need you to vent our remaining fuel from the tanks into space. It's the only way to take the pressure off." =

Poppy was watching the boom arm from the tanker lower into position to start pumping high pressure fuel into Atlantis' thirsty tanks. They were nearly coupled. The announcement from the chief engineer caused her heart to skip a beat. "Shiong mao niao!" she let slip out. Poppy wasn't one for vulgarities or swearing, at least not unless the situation required it. This one required it. "Captain, we've got to wave off! We'll go up like a bomb when they start to load us." It took everything Poppy could do to keep from shouting Abort! into the com system. It was the Captain's boat. He now had 15 seconds before she did it her way.

Gunther was quick to respond to Poppy's and Ryan's reports

" Abort Abort abort this is Atlantis heavy "

Gunther cut the throttles and pulled the Atlantis back from the boom, both of their head sets were filled with chatter

=" This is Sil star to Atlantis, confirming abort, repeat confirming abort, please state your situation "

Gunther was again quick as he cycled the dump valves and purged their remaining fuel into the black

=" My chief engineer has reported a failed fuel pump seal and our rear compartment is filling with hydrogen, we also have lost containment , We have been forced to dump our remaining fuel to ease the pressure from the failed component "=

=" Understood Atlantis, we'll remain at your side "=

At this time Mark's voice comes over the intercom

=" New captain on the bridge "=

Poppy fills Mark in on the situation

He strides into the flight deck area and glances at the command chair, sits in it and reads the screens , then he sees the readouts

=" Oh crap!!! , Poppy seal all the hatches to C deck, Only I and Ryan can access that deck, seal the air vents as well , do it now, I have to give Ryan a hand down there "

Mark was out of the command chair and rushing down the hallway to grab two respirators and some tools to help Ryan, he had plans to fix the hatch while Ryan dealt with that fuel pump , Once they were dirt side he would have an isolation valve installed between that fuel pump and the fuel tank

Poppy managed the systems as the Captain brought the ship away from the tanker. She then watched in stunned silence as he dumped the fuel from the tanks. Not exactly protocol for an inner system, but apparently regulations were laxer out here on the border. One thing was for certain, there would be quite the light show when they fired the engines up and the halo of hydrogen dispersed in space around them went up. Poppy wished she had an external camera on the ship, this would be a great holoshot.

=Sil-star-fueler this is Atlantis Heavy. We have vented our remaining fuel and are bone dry. We will need to switch to dead space coupling procedure.= Thoughts of necrophilia jokes from flight school ran through her head, but she was too polite to utter them.

"Captain, what exactly is going on, why are you flying and Mark is taking command?" she inquired of Gunther, her confusion with the situation now overriding any hostile feelings towards the older man.

Gunther adjusted the ships attitude according to Poppy's inputs then politely turned to the pilot

" Well my dear, I recieved a wave from home, seems that I am needed there and that I have inherited a sizable estate "

He sighs

" I am retiring and I have turned the Atlantis over to Mark, signed sealed and delivered, he seems to have the intestinal fortitude to carry on the mission of this boat, I have to get home and tend to mother, I will be sponsoring the Atlantis with funds from the estate and I even have a port for you folks to park in on Ariel , so we will see each other again "

Gunther whispers

" I'm going to miss this crew and boat "

Then looks straight forward toward the fueler which hung in front of them

OOC: I am tossing in some real life stuff regarding Gunther's mother, MY Mom is going through a rough time in the hospital and she just wants to come home, Poor women my heart goes out to her, Now onto some role play

Gunther heard Morgan announce her arrival on the bridge, no one could miss the bags and Kundan cleaning out the captains quarters , Gunther was quiet chatting with Poppy, he turns to Morgan

" The situation is not good, We just had to dump our fuel due to a leak down below, Mark is trying to help and I hear he broke something down there "

Mark stops at the bridge hatch and swipes his pretty access card that now had his chiseled face on it , It felt weird to him to say it but Mark announced

" Captain on the bridge "

he approaches the flight deck and takes the command chair of his stricken vessel, then he looks outside to the refueler hanging out in front of them, they were drifting and running on batteries , Mark looks to Poppy

" Whats the status on our reserves Poppy?"

"You goin' on a trip, Captain?" Morgan asked, noticing the packed bags. Before she had time to process that the Captain's quarters were being emptied out, Mark entered the Bridge.

" Captain on the bridge "

"What? Since when? What is going on?"

Morgan's confusion was a little overwhelming. She thought she and the Captain were pretty close friends, why wouldn't he tell her something like this? Why would he let her find out this way? Even if he didn't feel personally obligated to inform her, she was still the XO, as far as she knew, and what with the Captain being so strict on protocol, she figured she should've been told before Mark, and definitely before Poppy.

OOC: Thanks folks , Mother is doing well, Just wish she was more mobile

Gunther looked up at Morgan, then over to Mark and then back to Morgan who looked confused

" Well everything happened fast, I was going to call you to the bridge but then things went wild for us, I received a wave from home and I need to tend to family, Thats why that boat is here, to take me away from this family and give you folks a boost"

Gunther sipped his tea

" Mother is not well and needs my company, She has willed the estate to me and I feel I can support the lions with the estate "

Another sip

" I believe Mark is the man to carry on the mission, he is young and ambitious, he also has the desire to help those on the rim, I have granted him ownership of the vessel and the business, I wanted to inform you, but our current events prevented that , besides I think Mark needs an XO like you at his side "

One could tell Gunther was sad at having to leave the Atlantis and having to leave under the circumstances

Mark grins at Gunther's comment about Morgan remaining as XO

The meeting would be soon, once the engineers figured out the fuel situation

It took a moment for the shock of what the Captain said to fully hit Morgan. She stood there stiffly, as if at attention, while she processed what was going on.

Gunther was leaving, and now Mark was in charge. She turned to look at the new Captain, who was grinning. Why was he grinning? Maybe he considered this to be good news, overall, though Morgan felt like the floor was dropping out from under her.

She realized they were probably expecting her to say something, to acknowledge the situation. She didn't know what to do. Congratulate Mark on his unexpected promotion? Wish Gunther and his mother well? It would have been better if the Captain...if Gunther...had told her this personally. But here, with the new co-pilot and the new Captain in the room, she felt forced to reign in her emotions and act like the XO instead of like Gunther's friend.

"Well, it was an honor serving on the ship with you, sir, and I wish you luck with your mother," she said stiffly. She turned to Mark. "Congratulations on your promotion. Now, if you don't mind, I'll be in my quarters until the meeting."

She turned around and left the Bridge before anyone had a chance to respond.

The grin left Marks chiseled face and before he could say anything Morgan was gone, He could sense something going on inside of her. He was going to miss Gunther, he had a ship to run and as crew to look after, He could sense Morgan struggling within as she left the bridge
Mark lifted from the command chair, but Gunther stops him

" Give her time Mark, We will settle things in the meeting, right now you need to watch over Ryan and Brandon "

" Yeah , I could feel her struggling, and I need my XO firing on all cylinders "

Mark looks on the monitor and watches as the engineers do their work

Bridge - Deck B Poppysm

Poppy watched the scene unfold. While she was still smarting from her argument with Morgan earlier, she still felt sorry for the woman. Poppy was usually short on anger and long on empathy. As Morgan did her best to exit gracefully, Poppy just sat their for a second looking at Mark with wide eyes and a weak appologetic smile, grateful this was his problem and not hers. Her eys shot briefly over to Gunther. She could also sympathize with the old man. She knew if her family needed her she would find someway in the verse to get to them. Unlike the others she had not known Gunther long enough to really know the man. He seemed fair, but rather stuffy. The crew seemed to adore him, and that likely meant something. Mark on the other hand was a Pilot, she could understand him. He had been fun to fly with and was very generous in giving her the controls many times. He also dashed to her aid, with superhuman speed, when she needed help. She was not upset at all with Mark's promotion. It made the playing field on the ship more level to a new comer like her.

She looked back to the contorl boards and listened to the sqwack over the com system. =Copy that Silstar. We need your patience for a few more minutes. Atlantis will keep you advised of progress.= she spoke into the mike to try and keep the big tanker ship from moving off.

IC

The Silstar tanker replied

" Atlantis heavy we read you loud and clear, We'll remain as long as we need to , Do you have any preferences for a tow vessel should the need arise ? "

All eyes were on Mark who almost grimaced, then he remembered Brad , Mark speaks up

" We have dealt with a service facility on Athens and they do have a wrecker "

Mark had the Cortex address up on the screen and was typing a wave for Brads people and CCing it to the Wrecker

" Bounce it off of us and we'll boost it so that they get a clear and direct signal "

" Will do , thanks Sil star "

Mark hits send then stands to stretch his legs , he looks toward Poppy and Gunther

" Not a shiny way to start captaining this vessel "

Gunther grabs Mark's big vascular arm

" When I got her she would not even start since she was moth balled, don't you worry Mark , Once she is fixed she'll do you all well , just give her love, talk to her "

" Yeah, she's just having a bad day, I'll get her the love she needs, I think she will miss you sir "

" Atlantis will grow up and get over me, I know she wants to help those folks out there on the rim "

Mark stares out the forward canopy at the tanker that hung out there in the black and whispers

" Your my good girl, c'mon we'll get you looked after, fly nice for Poppy "

Poppy smiled at the final comment and lightly patted the flight board. "Oh she flies just lovely. This old girl loves to soar, a silly fuel line won't holder her down." It did beg the question if she was talking about the ship or herself. In truth, a precision flying instrument felt like an extension of her own body anyways. Think what she might about the rouges gallery of crewmates, Atlantis was the best ship she had ever flown.

Poppy's hand went to her com headset. She listened to the Chief Engineer's request to vent the shuttle bay. She looked over to Mark & Gunther, not sure who to address so she speaks to both of them. "Um Captain....The boys are requesting we open the shuttle bay to vent the gas into the black." Her fingers deftly moved across the board to the shuttle bay controls. "Ready to vent on your word sir."
