Dice Rolling
Hi all, so I've decided now to pose the question of dice rolling. Since this site does support it, I thought I'd pose the question of whether or not people would like to use it? This does open us up to numerous tabletop systems, so we could in fact play some of these systems on here?
Any interest? You may notice new options appear as I tinker with these settings in the near future.

Re: Dice Rolling
Okay here is a sample roll. This is for the Savage World system for a character with say a Notice roll to be made. Modifiers will have to be taken into account after the roll since the code won't do modifiers. But if the character had Alertness (which gives a +2 to their notice rolls) then what the dice read is the unmodified roll and you just have to notate it somewhere (say the bottom of the page) what the modifier to the roll is.

Re: Dice Rolling
On a side note I figured quite a few of us probably have the Firefly books from Margaret Weis Productions, so that might be one thing to link up on.
If people were to...say...get some Savage World books, I'd be absolutely thrilled to run a handful of the Savage World games

Re: Dice Rolling
I don't think the forum has the space for all the RPG books I have, but here are the general categories (not comprehensive, this is off the top of my head. I probably have others I'm not thinking of atm)
D&D v.x (pick one, lol)
StarWars
StarGate
Star Trek
Wheel of Time
Cthulu

Re: Dice Rolling
This is an awesome addition! Nice one Robert for proposing it and making it so.
This also raises the question of our growing into other gaming areas in addition to RPGs. I mean, if we're not only running free form text-based RPGs but are doing some using rule books and dice rolls, maybe we could also consider expanding to include games like Risk? We may need to look into the copyright, of course.

Re: Dice Rolling
This also does open up possible avenues of advertising as I know a friend of mine is a Moderator for a community website that incorporates Role Playing with Dice involved. When I originally told him about this site and group he did ask if we used a specific rule book etc.

Re: Dice Rolling
Yes, and the nice thing with dice-rolling is the unpredictable nature of dice rolls, and how that element of surprise can improve roleplaying for the players, and sometimes for the GMs too (i.e. rather than having to moderate a fight between two characters, the results can be determined by the roll of the dice).
Dice-rolling might not be for everyone and it might not be for every sim, but this is an option that is available and can enable us to use rulebooks for those interested.

Re: Dice Rolling
It'd be excellent if the main site can support this. I've copied this thread across to the main site at http://phoenix.reide96.com/viewtopic.php?pid=13276#p13276
I'm going to email Euan and ask him to check in there.
Meanwhile, can any further posts to this discussion please go in the thread on the main site at http://phoenix.reide96.com/viewtopic.php?pid=13276#p13276 and we can close this thread?
