OOC: Olaf is the pilot, Krystal, but he may need a hand. Wink He doesn't know yet that he'll be leaving the ship...

IC:
Olaf sat in the captain's chair when he reached the bridge. It felt odd to him to be sitting here instead of at the flight controls. Before he could look for the thing the captain had pointed him to, and to his surprise, Naraea sat down in the pilot's chair.

Olaf paused a moment, but then figured it would be a good idea for someone besides him to know how to fly the ship. Just in case something happened to him. He thumbed the comm button on the captain's chair.

=" Copy, engine room. Give her a kick. "=

Olaf switched off the comm and stood up, moving to stand behind Naraea.

"It's a fairly standard setup, except the solar sails. She'll take off like a rocket if you need her to, and spin on a dime when she has to." He showed her the controls for the solar sails, and gave her a brief run down of everything else. He spoke to her like someone who had flown before, since he had no idea what her experience was.

"Questions?"

Soon the com came to life and the sound of knocking filled the room, then Ronon's grunting voice fills the bridge

" OK Olaf we got us enough to deploy the sails, but were pouring the fuel through the engines like water "

Freya growled at the knocking sound coming from the engine room.

"Easy girl," Olaf said. Freya quieted immediately.

Olaf returned to the captain's chair and sat down, putting a hand on Freya's back. She laid down next to the chair as he thumbed the comm.

"Copy, Ronon. We'll put her through her paces. Keep her together down there."

Thumbing the comm back off, he took a deep breath and gripped the arm rests. Hold together, girl, he thought to the ship.

"Ok Naraea, let's give them hell."

Naraea smiled she loved to give good fer nuthing hun dahns hell. She then started to fly the ship as best as the gorram engines would let her. It took some fancy doings but she was managing well for her limited training in flyin a boat this size.

Olaf was pleased - Naraea was a quick study. Without needing to worry about her flying the ship, he returned to the task that had brought him to the bridge in the first place. What he read there left him a bit stunned. He tried to process the captain's actions based on this new information, but the weight of the situation didn't allow him that luxury.

He brought up the scanning controls on his console, and entered in a frequency. For a moment, there was nothing, and then a very audible ping that even Naraea could here. Olaf couldn't help but grin.

"Looks like we have a trail of bread crumbs to follow. Naraea, adjust course to 0.35."

Olaf smiled.

"Isn't it, though? I love flying this ship. It's even better when the engines aren't gasping for breath. She sails smoother than anything I've ever been in."

"Once we get the Captain and Ayla back. Seems like your beau is pretty handy with an engine. I'm glad we came across you two."

Olaf was checking the trajectory of the breadcrumb trail they were following.

"Looks like they are headed for Deadwood. If my calculations are correct, they'll arrive there about 4 hours ahead of us."

That amount of time and they could be gone anywhere. He didn't like doing it, but they were going to have to stress the Odyssey's engines.

"Naraea, we are going to have to go full burn if we want to make up some time. It may seriously damage the engines, but I think it's a risk we have to take to get the Captain and Ayla back."

He thumbed the comm.

"Engine room, can you give me any more output out of the engines?"

Ronon's voice came over the comm and the sound of two unhappy engines

=" Only if I get out and push !! , Hang on I got an idea "=

The ship almost died and the lights flickered, then Odyssey caught her second breath and lurched ahead with more power . the boys were doing their work down below

Olaf's heart nearly stopped when the engines sputtered, but the increase in power could be felt as Naraea pushed the Odyssey to her new limits.

He punched the comm, "Great job down there!"

By his new calculations, they would arrive only minutes after the other ships now. His smile faded. Now that they had accomplished the goal of catching up, they still had to figure out what to do to actually get their crew mates back.

"Naraea, we're still outgunned and crippled. We'll want to come in as discreetly as possible. How confident are you in getting us landed in atmo?"

OOC: I mailed him a couple of days ago. He said he would try and post again when he got the chance. In his last mail (little over a week ago) he was asking about the current situation and whereabouts of everybody on the ship, which I sent him. He is still there, I reckon he is busy with other things, or like Misty said, he might still be experiencing problems with connecting to the internet.

Olaf was taken aback. Even though he was acting captain, he didn't really feel right being called that. After all, August was still captain.

"Just Olaf is fine," he said. He was beginning to warm to the woman. "Looks like they've landed on Haven. I'm putting the coordinates on your screen. Let's set down a few miles away from them and use the mule to catch them by surprise."

That was his plan, anyway. He'd love to hear other suggestions from the crew, but right now landing safely was his highest priority. Then they could discuss strategy for getting August and Ayla back.

The landing wasn't all that smooth, considering how crippled they were, but Olaf had been flying long enough he could help with corrections as they went down. He gave guidance when needed, "Pull back a bit on the throttle." "Turn her a few degrees starboard." "Watch this bit of turbulent air." and after all that, they landed with only a slight thud.

Olaf beamed. "Not bad for a first time. You may put me out of a job!"

He opened the ship wide comm.

"All hands, report to the cargo bay."

The smile was off his face again - it was time to get down to business.

"We'll raid the weapons lockers in the cargo bay and then come up with a plan of action. Let's go."

With Freya on his heels, he headed out of the bridge and down to the cargo bay.
